ACT - Canberra
Like many of us, cycling didn’t play a large part of my life after those school days finished. Children, work & family took precedence. Then one day – wow, it hit me. I’m overweight, totally unfit, don’t know many other ladies, I was not good. Through a work colleague, I was introduced to triathlon. Well, so began a long, very enjoyable and rewarding change to my life. To do a triathlon – yes, I needed a bike. Haven’t they changed since I went to school? Gears? Cadence? So much to learn. I wish She Rides was around then.
So after getting “the bug”, I have competed in quite a few events from local fun triathlons, racing with our cycling club, Longer and harder Gran Fondos and a half ironman. Amy Gillett Gran Fondo along the Great Ocean Rd is a very special experience. Hopefully one day, you will get to experience that. My favourite thing about cycling is the fantastic people I get to meet. The life- long friendships and never forgotten experiences.
The introduction of the She Rides program makes the transition to achieving these things much easier and safer. And having friends to share the experience makes it so much more enjoyable. As a leader, watching ladies grow in confidence and achieving their goals is so rewarding. There is so much to share and teach you to ensure your love of cycling goes and you develop into a safe and confident cyclist. Each person is unique and I strive hard to ensure you receive the assistance each and every one of your needs.
Rockhampton has a rapidly growing community of ladies enjoying the benefits of cycling. Whether this is in small, very social groups meandering around our beautiful country roads ( you will be surprised at how beautiful it is) or in larger and/or faster groups, you will always find a large number of supportive and encouraging ladies. To get started in this community, joining a She Rides program is the way. Here you will learn correct bike handling skills, including cornering (did you know there are at least 5 important factors to ensure smooth cornering?), emergency braking and to ride safely in groups knowing the correct etiquette.
She Rides Rockhampton will start in the carpark of Emmaus College Main St, where safety is ensured. The first few weeks are spent developing your confidence in balance, riding in close proximity to other riders, turning tight corners, correct usage of gears and cadence as well as correct attire and the all-important road rules! We will become an expert in tyre changing, know the components of our bike while developing friendships and improving our fitness levels.
From week 4 we will explore various bike paths and routes around our unique town. I will challenge you to reach your best, all the while totally enjoying it.
Our last session always includes an invitation to past She Rides participants to join us to ensure you get to meet as many cycling ladies as possible.
All bike types are welcome.
